Freshman center Williams out for year with torn ACL

November 2, 2010

Women’s basketball freshman center Madison Williams will miss the 2010-11 season after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament, MSU announced Tuesday.

The injury came early in the Green and White scrimmage Sunday when Williams came down awkwardly after going up a rebound.

“It is disappointing to lose Madison for the year,” head coach Suzy Merchant said in a statement. “It’s always challenging to have season-ending injuries, but we have complete confidence in our medical team to get her back in a Spartan uniform for the 2011-12 season.”

Williams averaged 12.5 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks as a senior at Detroit Country Day and was named a McDonald’s All-American and the Gatorade Michigan Player of the Year.

The No. 25 Spartans will open up the exhibition season Thursday against Saginaw Valley State.
