Campus projects moving forward

November 11, 2010

Construction projects across campus continue on schedule, officials said during MSU’s Physical Plant Construction Junction meeting Thursday.

Work to enclose Emmons Hall prior to the first snowfall is slated for completion next week, with building heat to be activated around the same time, construction representative Ken Dawson said during the meeting.

Renovations on the building will continue during the winter and slated to be finished June 2011, he said.

It is the first of six residence halls to be renovated in Brody Neighborhood.

Wilson Road will be reduced to one lane in front of the Plant and Soil Sciences Building next year as structural steel will be delivered to the site, construction representative Chris Thronson said.

Interruptions will be eased during football Saturdays when the entire road will be open, he said. The expansion is slated for completion in October 2011.

In addition to construction projects, employees are preparing for the upcoming snow season, said Adam Lawver, a landscape architect at the Physical Plant.

Students and faculty are reminded to not chain bikes to signs and not barricade sidewalks and parking lots as removing snow would be difficult, he said.

During heavy snow, crews will work to clear parking lots beginning at 2 a.m., Lawver said. For immediate assistance for snow in front of buildings, faculty can call (517) 355-7750.
