MSU receives $25 million grant from National Science Foundation

February 17, 2010

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon on Wednesday announced a $25 million grant from the National Science Foundation, or NSF, for a new science and technology center.

The grant will fund the Biocomputational Evolution in Action Consortium, or BEACON. BEACON will enable researchers to study evolution in digital as well as biological realms.

Simon said MSU beat out hundreds of other universities for the grant, which will fund BEACON for five years.

“We’re really delighted,” Simon said. “This was a very difficult competition.”
