Newspaper box lit on fire

An arsonist set a newspaper box owned by The State News on fire Monday morning outside of West Fee Hall, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The incident occurred between 1 and 1:30 a.m. and was reported by a 20-year-old male student who was walking to his dorm in West Akers Hall.

An MSU police officer arrived and used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out. Members of the East Lansing Fire Department arrived a short time later to soak the remaining burning papers, McGlothian-Taylor said.

The box is estimated to be worth about $100. Police have no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.
