U-M player’s father will not be charged?

March 3, 2009

A University of Michigan hockey player’s father will not face charges stemming from a confrontation with an MSU player after a January game in Ann Arbor.

Charges will not be filed against Bruce Kampfer because it is unlikely he would be convicted of any wrongdoing, Washtenaw County Chief Deputy Assistant Prosecutor Steven Hiller said.

U-M police said Kampfer entered the MSU locker room and confronted then-sophomore forward Corey Tropp after a Jan. 24 game. In the final moments of the game, Tropp and then-freshman forward Andrew Conboy attacked Kampfer’s son Steve, a U-M defenseman.

Hiller said Tropp stated he didn’t want to press charges.

Neither Conboy nor Tropp were investigated by police or charged in connection with the on-ice attack.

Tropp and Conboy have since left the MSU hockey program.
