Freshmen fifteen Q's

Vocal performance and music education freshman Marissa Keep answers questions about her hobbies and experiences as a first-year student at MSU.

College is a whole new world for many freshmen travelling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or fewer, at a new face on campus and her perspective on her new frontier.

Meet Marissa Keep

1. What is your major?
?I’m double majoring in vocal performance and music education.

2. Where do you live on campus?
?I live in Bailey Hall in Brody Complex.

3. Where are you from??
I’m from Traverse City, Michigan.

4. How did you get started in opera?
?Well, I went to Interlochen Arts Academy and I was a singer there, and they have ?an opera program that I started.

5. What’s your dream job?
?My dream job is to be a professional opera singer.

6. What are your favorite song lyrics?
?“Everybody wants to be a cat” … “The Aristocats.”

7. What is your favorite Broadway show?
?Probably “Oklahoma.”

8. What was the first concert you ever went to?
?The first concert I ever went to was probably my sister’s Christmas recital at school.

9. What was your favorite band in the ’90s?
?The Backstreet Boys.

10. What was the silliest mistake you’ve made this year??
I got on three buses in a row that all turned out to go to the wrong place, and I was on the buses for an hour.

11. What motto do you live your life by??
Live, laugh and love.

12. What is one talent you wish you had?
?I wish I could play a sport well.

13. If you could be any person for a day, who would you be?
?Renée Fleming. She’s a very famous opera singer.

14. What is your favorite childhood memory?
?My favorite childhood memory would have to be going to visit my grandparents in Florida, then going to Disney World.

15. Where were you during President Barack Obama’s inauguration??
I was in class.

15 a. Did you get to watch any of it?
?I didn’t get to see a minute of it.
