Sushi Ya to reopen Friday in former Burger Down building

October 23, 2008

After completing final building inspections throughout the week, Sushi Ya, 529 E. Grand River Ave., is expected to officially open its doors Friday.

The sushi restaurant will feature an open kitchen that allows for more space than was available in its previous location, 124 W. Grand River Ave., manager Nathan Carney said.

“This is a better building and different layout,” Carney said. “The open kitchen is a neat feature and you can see the employees working and everything.” The new location has 15 tables and holds 66 people, Carney said, and might be recognized by some as the old Burger Down building.

Owners said the restaurant’s kitchen food sales will benefit from the new location, which could eventually feature a new patio out front.

“We’re going to be OK — we have a lot of regulars coming back,” said Chang Ko, the restaurant’s owner. “It’s a better area and a better setup.”
