Philanthropist Koo dies at 87

October 26, 2008

Delia Koo, for whom the MSU International Academic Center is named, died last week at the age of 87. She first made her appearance at MSU by donating $3 million to the university to assist international students in 2000.

The Okemos resident and retired Eastern Michigan University mathematics professor was known through her work at the center, where she helped with the expansion of the Volunteer English Tutoring Program in 1983. Besides her volunteer work, Koo was one of the first recipients to receive the MSU Philanthropist Award, spokeswoman Kristen Anderson said.

MSU University Relations will be holding a ceremony at 4 p.m. on Nov. 24 at the International Center to honor Koo and her services.
