CCED hopes new location will expand experiences

October 1, 2008

By moving to the revitalized Michigan Avenue corridor, the MSU Center for Community and Economic Development hopes to increase its impact on the communities surrounding East Lansing.

The center is now located at 1615 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, allowing the center to work in a growing part of the Lansing community. Associate Director John Melcher said the new location would lead to a whole new experience for students involved in the center’s work.

“It’s another way that the university is extending itself to the surrounding communities and it’s just so important,” Melcher said. “We’re very glad to be a part of that.”

The new building allows for the center to expand its horizons through much-improved technology, said Carla Hills, communications manager for University Outreach and Engagement.

Melcher said the updated technology will allow the center to work with communities outside of the Lansing area.

“Given the new technology, we can do meetings across the Internet, (it saves) time and it’s better for the environment,” he said.
