Soccer freshman named conference Player of the Week

August 26, 2008

It didn’t take MSU women’s soccer freshman forward Laura Heyboer long to bring her habit of winning awards to the collegiate level.

She nabbed the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award Monday — the first possible honor she could have attained as a Big Ten athlete.

Friday against Oakland, Heyboer dished out an assist to junior midfielder Lauren Sinacola 43 seconds into her collegiate career.

Then, she kicked in three straight goals in the second half — all in a 20-minute span to give her the hat trick.

She currently sits atop the Big Ten with seven points.
