The MSU men’s soccer team hit the field for the first time in an exhibition game Saturday and fell to Louisville, 2-1, in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Louisville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half before senior Doug DeMartin equalized the game off a pass from sophomore Spencer Thompson.

But in the final minute of the first half, the Cardinals regained the lead and would hold onto it for the rest of the game.

Redshirt freshman goaltender Jeremy Clark started in net and played the first half, while sophomore goalie Avery Steinlage played in the second half.

The Spartans begin regular season play Friday when they host the MSU/Radisson Fall Classic at the new DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field. The Spartans will play St. Francis (Pa.) at 5 p.m. Friday and Vermont at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
