The Detroit Shock and Los Angeles Sparks had a small melee in Tuesday night’s WNBA game. Here are some thoughts on what went down.
“It’s surprising … seeing how in our society (fighting is) not a feminine thing to do. But at the same rate, they’re involved in sports, which is a competitive and masculine environment, so they’re conditioned to be more masculine than what we think of as a woman.”

“It brought back memories of (Detroit Pistons vs. Indiana Pacers) … I think it’s one of the first fights in the WNBA, so you don’t expect to see that or probably not to see it again, but you know stuff happens. It had to happen eventually though.”

“It was unfortunate, but it’s basketball. It gets physical. All the women in the WNBA are adults, and of course they have emotions, very competitive. It really wasn’t that bad.”
Quincy Hodges
2008 MSU graduate
