Former MSU kicker released by Dolphins

June 8, 2008

Former MSU placekicker Dave Rayner was released by the NFL’s Miami Dolphins on Wednesday.

The three-year veteran was signed by the Dolphins this summer to compete with former Michigan placekicker Jay Feely.

Rayner, who graduated from MSU as the school’s all-time leading scorer, has played for four teams in his young playing career. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL draft, but played just one season with the squad.

In 2006, he played in 16 games for the Green Bay Packers, converting 26 of his 35 field-goal attempts. In 2007, he split time between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers and went 15-22 on his field-goal tries.
