Thomas, Davis, Baldwin selected in NFL Draft

April 27, 2008

Three former MSU football players were selected during this weekend’s NFL Draft, while a bevy of others will attempt to enter the league via free agency.

Wide receiver Devin Thomas was drafted by the Washington Redskins on Saturday, while tight end Kellen Davis and defensive end Ervin Baldwin were both snagged by the Chicago Bears in the latter rounds on Sunday.

Thomas, who most draft experts projected as a first rounder, was selected by Washington early in the second round (34th overall). He was the second receiver to come off the board — selected one spot behind former Houston wide out Donnie Avery.

Davis was a fifth round selection (158th overall) by the Bears, who selected Baldwin with their next pick, which came in the seventh round (208th overall).

Safety Nehemiah Warrick, defensive end Jonal Saint-Dic, running back Jehuu Caulcrick, and several other Spartans all went undrafted, but can still sign with NFL teams via free agency.
