Upon an attempt to return from cancer, Arthur Ray, an MSU football prospect to play on the offensive line, has withdrawn from his spring semester and has suffered a major setback in relation to his football career.
Doctors found an infection on a bone of the Chicago native’s leg, forcing them to go in and take out what they originally implanted — giving him six weeks in a cast with a scheduled three IVs a day followed by more surgery to repair it.
“He’s had a set back again but the foundation is there in terms of not having cancer, so he can move forward and return here in the fall,” MSU football head coach Mark Dantonio said. “But it’s probably going to be a year before he’s able to play.”
On a positive note, Dantonio and the rest of his staff hope to use the situation to inspire his squad.
“He’ll be a tremendous inspiration when he’s able to play,” he said.
Dantonio said Ray hopes to resume classes at MSU in the fall.
