Suton honored by Big Ten

March 3, 2008

Junior center Goran Suton nailed his first collegiate 3-pointer Sunday afternoon against Indiana, snapping an 0-for-15 attempt record.

Could it have been karma?

Suton was named the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, after averaging 15.5 points and 12 rebounds in his past two games against ranked Wisconsin and Indiana.

Suton racked up 14 points and 15 rebounds against No. 10 Wisconsin on Feb. 28 and finished with 17 points and nine rebounds Sunday, as well as tying a career-high with four steals against the Hoosiers.

He shot 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the field on the week, as Suton now averages 8.8 points and 8.1 rebounds — ranking second in the conference in rebounding.

Suton is the third Spartan to obtain the award this season — sophomore forward Raymar Morgan and senior guard Drew Neitzel did the same on Nov. 19 and Jan. 7, respectively.
