E-mail scam reported by E.L. residents

February 13, 2008

East Lansing police are investigating two related reports of a threatening e-mail scam.

Two East Lansing residents reported receiving e-mails with the subject line “Be More Careful,” in which the sender threatened to kill them if they didn’t wire him or her $15,000.

East Lansing police Sgt. Scott Wriggelsworth said any recipients should delete any e-mail with that subject line or forward it to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.

Wriggelsworth said residents who receive the e-mail aren’t in any danger and that the sender seems to be conducting a scam to get money.
