Winter storm to hit E.L.

A storm producing one to three inches of snow and up to a quarter of an inch of ice is expected hit the East Lansing area this evening.

The rapid snowfall will precede sleet and freezing rain with the potential to cause treacherous conditions for driving, said Lansing’s WILX Channel 10 meteorologist Nicholas Ferreri.

Ferreri said the storm will move across the central Michigan area and expected to hit between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. with ice accumulations starting at about 10 p.m.

He said the ice will turn to rain Sunday morning as temperatures warm up to a high of 40 degrees.

“It’s going to be a really interesting next 24 hours in weather,” Ferreri said.

Fererri said he suggests that residents in area stay inside tonight and take extra precaution if driving is necessary.
