Unified student section at hockey games would intimidate

How would you feel if Michigan’s basketball coach said that Breslin Center was an easy place to play? Would you do anything about it? Well, when Minnesota and Wisconsin came to Munn Ice Arena over Thanksgiving weekend, both teams decided to start their freshman and sophomore goaltenders. When Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves was asked why he did that, he called us out. He said, “This had kind of been a debuting place for our young freshman goaltenders. It’s a nonconference game and … It’s not a bad building for them to start in. It’s not as raucous as Yost Arena, for instance.”

One would think the defending national champions would have one of the toughest arenas to play in. Not here. One of my friends who goes to Miami (Ohio) came up for one of the games and said that our student section is lacking. He said Miami’s student section runs from the blue line all the way behind the net to the opposite side blue line and they stand the entire game.

I suggest that we make one unified student section like we did for the football games. The tiny Slapshots section separated from the regular student section is barely audible, doesn’t look unified and just isn’t cutting it. Let’s get loud, show our national champion hockey team we are here for them and make Munn the hardest place to play in the CCHA.
