Body found in river identified as Lansing resident

Lansing police report the body found in the Grand River last week near South Washington Avenue and Interstate 496 is that of 53-year-old Gwendolyn Peterson.

Peterson, a Lansing resident, was discovered by pedestrians Thursday morning and pulled from the water.

A cause of death has yet to be determined. It is not known how long Peterson was in the river before she was found.

Lansing police Lt. Bruce Ferguson said he expects to receive more information about the death later this week.
