Student overflow causes chaos in stadium sections

For the past two Saturdays at Spartan Stadium, the motto “We are one” has held strong in the school pride aspect of the football games.

However, when it comes to seating in sections 14 and 15 in the south end zone, it’s a no-holds-barred scamper to find a slab of aluminum to stand on if one of the 13,600 students with tickets decides to arrive too close to game time, or leaves his or her seat during the first half.

Sections 14 and 15 are located in a corner of the stadium — an area highly coveted by ticket holders and near where Corner Blitz members used to sit in prior seasons.

Because of the student overflow in the sections, some ticket-holders be turned away if they leave their seat after kickoff, said Kelly Beck, head of MSU police’s special events and planning division.

“The football games are all about the experience — watching your team, cheering, eating junk and having a good time,” packaging sophomore Margaret Studer said. “And if they are closing all that off
