A routine traffic stop led to a wrecked motorcycle and a foot pursuit from the Main Library to North Kedzie Hall on Tuesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. A 20-year-old male student was pulled over outside IM Sports-Circle by an MSU police officer for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle, McGlothian-Taylor said. When the officer approached the motorcycle, it was observed that the vehicle was still running. The officer instructed the student to turn off the motorcycle, but the driver sped off and lost control of his vehicle at an estimated 60 mph outside the Main Library, McGlothian-Taylor said. After wrecking his motorcycle, the student ran to North Kedzie Hall, where he was arrested by assisting officers.

The student has been charged with fleeing and eluding police, driving with a suspended license and entry without authority. He is being held in Ingham County Jail, and the case is being forwarded to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office, McGlothian-Taylor said.
