Lansing serial killer to be arraigned

September 3, 2007

The suspect in the killing of five Lansing women since July 26 is expected to be arraigned today, officials said Monday.

Matthew Emmanuel Macon, 27, is believed to be responsible for the murders of five area women and the assault of a 56-year-old Lansing woman.

Police are investigating whether Macon is responsible for the 2004 death of Barbara Jean Tuttle, who was killed in the same house as Aug. 8 victim Debra Renfors.

Police also believe Macon may be connected to a series of unsolved sexual assaults in 2003.

Lansing police Chief Mark Alley said the department will be looking at cases prior to 2003 that are similar to the recent slayings.

All of the victims were older women who lived alone in the Lansing area. Macon was on parole when arrested.
