Men's soccer team to host Valparaiso today

October 18, 2006

The MSU men's soccer team will play Valparaiso in its second-to-last home game of the season at 4 p.m. today. Valparaiso brings a 7-6-0 overall, 2-2-0 Mid-Con record to face the Spartans, who sit at 7-5-2 and 0-2-2 in the Big Ten.

MSU has defeated the Crusaders in the teams' last five meetings, including a 2-0 shutout last season.

Junior forward Kenzo Webster leads MSU in scoring this season with six goals — almost half of the team's offensive output for the season.

In their last game, the Spartans defeated Loyola Chicago behind a penalty kick goal from senior midfielder Matt Kreikemeier with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. The win snapped a five-game winless streak for MSU.

After today's game, the Spartans will attempt to register their first Big Ten win when they host Northwestern at 1 p.m. Sunday at Old College Field. That contest is MSU's final home game of the season.
