Two men, who formerly were involved romantically for two years, engaged in a domestic violence and larceny incident at the MSU dairy barns Monday, said MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor. At 2:20 a.m., the 27-year-old suspect showed up at the barns where his former boyfriend was working. The man was upset because the victim, a 22-year-old student, hadn't returned phone calls he made to request money owed to him, McGlothian-Taylor said. The suspect allegedly charged toward the man and pushed him. The victim then raised a shovel in defense, but the tool hit the suspect in the face.As the victim called police from a nearby office, his silver and blue Nokia flip cell phone was stolen by the suspect, who said he took it as "collateral" for the money indebted to him. When police called the cell phone after the man had left, the suspect answered and returned to the dairy barns for questioning. McGlothian-Taylor said although the suspect was arrested and taken to Ingham County Jail, the victim indicated he would not pursue charges.A 49-year-old woman reported her purse and its contents, which she estimated to be worth $595, stolen Sunday from the Union. The woman, who is not affiliated with the university, was attending a wedding at the Union and wasn't certain where she had last left her purse, McGlothian-Taylor said. The brown, eel-skin purse held a blue Sprint cell phone and a faux leather wallet containing the woman's driver's license and $503 in cash, she said.A female Union employee contacted MSU police Monday to say the purse had been discovered by a security guard, but she declined to comment whether or not the contents were intact.Maggie Lillis
