MSU police and the East Lansing Fire Department responded to a call of a washing machine smoking at about 2:45 p.m. Monday in Spartan Village. East Lansing Fire Department Lt. Greg Baker said there was no fire, but the washing machine's belt burned up. "(There were) too many clothes, rugs or whatever in the washer machine," he said. "That's what caused the smoke." The laundry facility affected was the one adjacent to building 1443.Lindsey Poisson
