Summer film already receives cult status

Mark Houghton portrays John Saunders in New Line Cinema's new film "Snakes on a Plane." It arrives in theaters Aug. 18, but is already a cult phenomenon for fans who love to snicker at its B-movie premise and ridiculously obvious title.

The most anticipated movie this summer isn't "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" or "X-men: The Last Stand." It's a small action film, not due out until August. And it's already been labeled both a cult hit and a blockbuster without anyone having seen it.

The movie that has generated so much buzz, so early? "Snakes on a Plane."

That's right, it's called "Snakes on a Plane."

The plot, if you can call it that, is pretty much defined in the title. The mob is trying to kill a witness willing to testify against it. So it takes hundreds of snakes and releases them on the plane the witness is on. So, to sum it up, there are snakes
