I understand that this is a public university and the public has a right to be on campus. I understand the preacher's right to be outside of Wells Hall.
However, I do not understand how nothing can be done about it.
He is not peacefully standing outside a classroom building. He is standing out there yelling and harassing students as they are trying to receive an education. We do not allow unruly patrons in the public libraries or even the libraries on campus, just because he is outside should not make a difference. How would the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety like it if he came and stood outside its office for a couple of days? Would the preacher be gone then?
The other thing that I don't understand about the preacher is that he calls himself a Christian. I am a Christian and I know that I am not perfect. No person, much less a Christian, is. It is only by the grace of God that I am able to be saved and forgiven.
I'm not going to go yell at my classmates. I don't think that would help save them at all. I believe that the preacher missed a couple of important Bible verses while reading it: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (John 13:34).
Did Jesus scream at people to save them? Would the preacher like us to come to his house and scream at his family?
My favorite saying about being a Christian is "Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words" from St. Francis of Assisi.
