Ian McNabb is not alone in near accidents with MSU police vehicles blatantly violating the laws they so tyrannically impose, "Police should practice laws, give right of way" (SN 12/2).
Early this semester, I was nearly broadsided at the Shaw-Bogue traffic circle. You know those new signs that say crossing the double white lines is a moving violation (a violation they are very quick to ticket)?
An MSU police Tahoe on eastbound Shaw Lane in the right lane (specified for turning onto southbound Bogue only) crossed the double white line into the left lane continuing around the circle without slowing. I was on northbound Bogue in the left lane slowly advancing into the circle (due to my skepticism that anyone would actually follow the traffic circle laws) because there was an opening in traffic.
My skepticism served me well, saving me from being broadsided by the police officer, a police officer neglecting the double white line law, apparently believing that the law does not apply to the police.
I expect the people in charge of enforcing laws on this campus will know enough to lead by example, otherwise, if the law is not important enough for the police to acknowledge, then how can they expect students to respect it?
I hope that I do not witness this kind of lamentable error in judgment by a member of the MSU police force again during my time at MSU.
