The fact that the MSU students have been classified as temporary residents in all the articles I have been reading lately is disappointing. This suggests that the students here aren't important and more "permanent residents" should be given priority when the East Lansing City Council makes policies.
I have news for all these residents and the City Council: Students here at Michigan State University are permanent.
Yes, they might leave MSU after their four years are completed, but there will be another class, most likely a bigger one, following in their footsteps. As far as I'm concerned, MSU students as a whole are more "permanent" than the East Lansing residents and should be treated as a permanent entity when the City Council decides on issues.
MSU students have been here for 150 years and will be here for many more years to come. East Lansing is a college town and the nonstudent population should accept this as reality. It's great these people choose to live here, but if you choose to live in a college town don't complain about the obvious negatives that come with it. That's like buying a house next to a farm and complaining about the smell.
