I just have one question for Matt Cook regarding his letter "Clothes contribute to reasons to rape"; (SN 10/27): When I was raped, I was wearing a green sweater not at all low cut and jeans.
Did I deserve to be raped less than a girl wearing a mini-skirt or low-cut top? If you say yes, all I feel is pity for you. No one deserves, asks or contributes to any form of sexual assault, even if they are wearing sexy clothes or drinking.
It's myths like these that perpetuate the stereotypes about rape. My advice to you is to spend some time with a sexual assault victim before you go making comments such as those. I bet your views will change dramatically, because talking about rape and actually living through one are completely different things.
So please, go do rape survivors a favor and educate yourself before you speak.
