Fan quits watching after disappointment

I have finally given up all hope for the MSU football program. After years of supporting the MSU football program, I have been forced to quit.

To me, being a fan of MSU football is like being an alcoholic: You have some great times, but in the end you are left miserable, hungover and without hope. It is sad to see our team outplay our opponents week after week, only to lose the most important games because of some fluke play. It seems like every time MSU loses I think that we can't possibly lose a more demoralizing game, but I am proven wrong with almost every new loss.

As part of my sobriety from MSU football, I will no longer allow myself to attend games or tailgates, watch the games on TV, listen to the games on radio or even read about the program in newspapers and magazines.

I am already seeing clearer today, as I have been sober since Oct. 2, which is the day after we lost to U-M. Unfortunately I heard from friends about the Ohio State debacle and I was almost sick just hearing about it.

I recommend this sobriety for all MSU football fans who have gone through this torture for as long as I have. You will see that you are able to achieve much more on fall Saturdays with all the new free time.

And just like an alcoholic says: Once an MSU fan always an MSU fan. I wish the MSU football program only the best, but I will not be watching.
