Columnist shouldn't dis Izzone campout

As a member of the Student Alumni Foundation Board of Directors, I am a little offended by Bob Darrow's column "Fans get a feeling for Izzone basketball" (SN 9/26). I am not an Izzone Director, but I stand behind them.

If he thinks it was hazing, then why didn't he leave? Why did he choose to participate? I know he wrote it was because he didn't have a choice. Wrong. Every one has choices. Just because you don't like the consequences of choosing to not camp out does not mean that you don't have a choice.

On Saturday morning, a girl in a wheelchair and an assistance dog waited in line to check in for the campout. She did not fill out an excuse request to try and get out of it. She told us that she really wanted to be a part of this, and so she showed up to camp out with out complaint. She was told that she was more than welcome to stay but that she was excused from the campout for medical reasons. I saw her later that day participating in the campout activities.

There is a true Izzone member for you. I don't see her writing a column in the State News calling the campout hazing, do you? Quit complaining and realize how lucky you are to have been able to camp out.
