CB Hayes suspended for unknown reasons

July 25, 2005

This weekend, MSU football head coach John L. Smith suspended senior cornerback Jaren Hayes for an indefinite period of time.

The suspension was for an off-field incident, and it prevents Hayes from participating in any football-related activities.

MSU Associate Athletics Director John Lewandowski said there is no timetable for Hayes' return to the team. He also said Smith would set the criteria for Hayes to follow for a return to the field.

Hayes, a Lebanon, Pa., native, spent his first two years as a Spartan in the backfield as a running back.

He rushed for 949 yards and nine touchdowns in two years, before switching to defensive back in 2004. As a cornerback, he recorded 68 tackles and had one interception.
