Detroit's Ford Field chosen to host hockey's 2010 NCAA Frozen Four

June 28, 2005

The city of Detroit has been selected to host the 2010 Frozen Four at Ford Field on April 8 and 10.

"The Central Collegiate Hockey Association is extremely excited to be part of another major sporting event that is coming to Detroit," CCHA Commissioner Tom Anastos said in a written statement. "The Frozen Four at Ford Field will provide an incredible platform for us to showcase our sport."

The NCAA Frozen Four is two semifinal games and one championship game, after the winners of each of four regionals have won their respective regions. There are 16 teams in the tournament field, and the Frozen Four hasn't been held in Detroit since 1990.

Along with the games being held at the Detroit Lions' Ford Field, is the possibility to have over 70,000 fans at the game. The current world record for fans at a hockey game is 74,554, set at Spartan Stadium on Oct. 6, 2001, for a MSU vs. Michigan hockey game.

Along with this Frozen Four event, Detroit will host the 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Super Bowl XL in 2006 and NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four in 2009.
