I would like to comment on Jolene Ross' editorial regarding Newsweek and the laughable reaction to the article by the White House. I really wish that you asked the same difficult and truth-finding questions to our current administration during their mad rush to war on Iraq. We were all mislead into believing that Iraq was an imminent threat and that Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. President Bush and his PR group blamed their ignorance and miscalculations on "bad intelligence" while not admitting to any wrongdoing. Where was the media? It certainly did not help get my questions answered because it didn't ask any.
The White House has called on Newsweek magazine to help repair damage to the U.S. image in the Muslim world by its false report that U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba desecrated the Quran. Maybe Newsweek should respond the same way President Bush did by arrogantly saying "bring it on."
If the White House wants to hold the editor of Newsweek accountable for those misstatements, then they should begin holding themselves accountable for their own.
