I am deeply disturbed and upset at the way things went down at the end of the Final Four game against the University of North Carolina. After the loss, in the Cedar Village area, we decided to try to go home.
Students were not doing anything out of control, or anything that would cause the police to do anything drastic, but then out of nowhere the police started shooting off tear gas and continued until 2 a.m. or later.
We could not leave for the entire time and made one final run for it while throwing up because of the tear gas.
It was an absolute disgrace to have the police causing such a problem. They wanted students to go nuts and try to do bad things when, in all reality, people were not causing any problems until the cops stepped in. If anyone is to blame it is the police officers.
I am so disappointed and can't believe that we are so greatly disrespected on all levels to the degree that we cannot make it back to our homes or dorms without being shot at with tear gas.
It wasn't until the police officers started shooting tear gas at us that people started to get a little out of control. The police want an excuse to keep us at bay, so they are doing whatever they can to make us look bad.
The university and all of the students were not out of control in Cedar Village, and I am greatly disappointed in our police officers.
