Carter deserving of newspaper's respect

In response to the editorial ("Power player" SN 4/20), I was shocked to read the negative regard that the author has for Sue Carter. I was in Carter's class in 2000 and 2001. When I ran into difficulties in her class, I went to office hours. I went out of my way to get her input as to how I could improve in her class. I was no more than just a face in an endless 300-person lecture hall, and she was able to put a name to a face. Four years later, I can still walk around MSU, and when I bump into Sue Carter she still says, "Hi Blake, how are you?"

My point is that some MSU students feel like they are not heard, but often the student does not take the initiative to vocalize their opinions through the right channels. It is my experience that even the people in "influential positions" at MSU are willing to listen if you take the time to voice your opinions.

So to the author of this editorial: Take your own advice and make an appointment to visit with Carter before she leaves. At the very least you will be able to have a chat with a pretty darn interesting individual that I have a lot of respect for. Good luck, Sue.
