Northern Tier residents, it is unfortunate that you have troubles commuting to campus, but that is your responsibility, not the university's. You chose to live that far off campus, you chose the need to commute, you chose to create these problems for yourself.
MSU doesn't run the Capital Area Transportation Authority, they have an agreement with them. MSU is not responsible in any way, shape or form for your transportation needs once you move off campus. And if you believe they are, is it also the responsibility of MSU to bus in residents from 20 miles away? 30? 50? No.
I suggest you take some personal responsibility in your life and do several things: first, carpool with people in your complex who have classes at similar times, and park in a commuter lot. This will cut down greatly on traffic around and on campus.
Second, if you are constantly late for class due to the buses, leave earlier. Shocking revelation, but it works. Third, don't live off campus if you can't arrange for your own transportation. Fourth, weather permitting, walk, cycle or skate your way into campus.
And if you argue being a pedestrian is unsafe in the area, ask the local police department to supply an officer for pedestrian safety. Be persistent about it, they will do it.
