Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

Front-page article seemed insensitive

The headlining article in Wednesday's State News ("Student found dead in E.L.") was absurdly insensitive and disrespectful to both the deceased and those in mourning.

Articles reporting on serious events like the passing of a member of our student body should not be made into a creative writing piece.

To headline a story without adequate and factual details released by the family is irresponsible. The imaginative details, such as "Windows outlined by dark shutters glowed yellow," that Ms. Phillips used to describe the scene were unnecessary and negligent.

As a reader of The State News, which circulates to thousands of students and alumni daily, it is disheartening to consider that such a serious event could be portrayed so nonchalantly.
