I am writing in support of Alicia Ratterree, whose article, "ASMSU tax increase a needless addition" (SN 2/7), addresses the waste of ASMSU. I want to offer an existing remedy to this problem, aside from dissolving ASMSU entirely.
During the first week of the semester, every student is able to go to Student Services on the third floor and fill out a form to get a refund for the ASMSU tax. Although they are terribly slow in issuing this refund, they will nonetheless issue it, and you will get back your $13.75. I think ASMSU has about as much influence on my academic and personal life as the cancellation of TV's "Jenny Jones" had - no impact at all.
If I was not willing to waste away in my chair watching pointless TV, then I am certainly not going to allow these people to waste my money on meaningless or trivial pursuits in "the name of the students."
Thus, I call for all MSU students who see ASMSU for the waste that it is, to go to Student Services next semester and ask them to serve you up your refund.
