What an excellent article ("Learning mother" SN 2/22). As I read it, the only thing I could say is "wow." It's about time a single mother's voice was printed in The State News, instead of the usual football, basketball or tailgating "dilemmas."

I am also a single mother, full-time student and part-time employee at a bookstore. My son was born Oct. 16, 2003. He has changed my world in so many ways, and I, too, have found such mystery and joy in watching him grow and learn. Your article had me in tears. Thank God. I thought there was only a handful of us, single mothers and full-time students.

Every day, I am beginning to meet more and more of us, and I find solitude in knowing that I'm not alone, and there are others out there that have my same struggles, fears and goals.

Time has become an essential product of each day. I find myself sometimes feeling isolated from the world around me because I barely have time to eat and sleep, let alone socialize with peers.

Well, once again, your article was breathtaking. Thank you for letting the community hear your voice. I enjoyed every sentence.
