I am so tired of half-hearted MSU fans whining about the Izzone. The issue of the moment is the official T-shirts the Izzone has always required its members to wear. Having all members wear a designated shirt demonstrates unity and cohesiveness within the section and makes the section more intimidating to the opposition. This is why virtually every spirit section of worth does so.
Izzone contracts clearly require that members wear the section shirt to games. If a student is too lazy to read a small handful of straight-forward lines before signing a contract, I can only imagine the problems they will get themselves into in the future.
The Izzone has repeatedly reminded members at every opportunity that students will not be admitted to games without an Izzone shirt. The section is far too large to allow casual exceptions without making rule enforcement impossible or unreasonably arbitrary.
Andrew Schout takes issue with the Izzone being compared to the Cameron Crazies ("Izzone rules ruin fun spirit of game" SN 1/24). The Izzone deservedly earned this reputation years ago when MSU was still cranking out annual Big Ten championships. It was a major reason the Breslin Center was considered the toughest place in the country to play on the road.
Most students today have never seen the way the Izzone dictated the atmosphere at Breslin and got into the heads of every team to play there.
Those members have graduated to be all too often replaced not by passionate Spartan fans, but by bandwagoners who join because it's "the thing to do."
