Rensing replaces Erbe as volleyball coach

Assistant coach Daune Rensing has been named interim coach of the MSU volleyball program following last Thursday's announcement of head coach Chuck Erbe's retirement.

"I have confidence that Daune Rensing and (assistant coach) Ed Tolentino can work with our student athletes during this transition period," MSU Athletics Director Ron Mason said in a written statement.

"Our primary goal is to have a timely and thorough search process which will culminate in the hiring of a head coach."

Rensing concentrates on outside hitters, defense and passing and is the program's recruiting coordinator. This past season was Rensing's fourth with MSU, after a two-year stint as assistant coach at Georgetown where she was responsible for recruiting, travel coordination and strength training.

During her time at Georgetown, the Hoyas won the 1999 Big East Tournament championship and went to the 1999 NCAA Tournament.

Rensing played volleyball and twice served as a team captain at Maryland. During her playing career, the team advanced to two NCAA Tournaments and went undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Maryland also won the 1996 ACC Tournament title.

Rensing also played professionally in Switzerland and ran practices for the Franches-Montagnes Junior Volleyball Program there.

Rensing said she was still learning what her duties as interim coach would entail, but would help out in any way she could as the hiring process was underway.

"MSU will hire the best of the best," Rensing said.
