In response to the slew of editorials that have been all over the news about Friday's incident between the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers, has anyone stopped to think that this is being blown out of proportion? The accused fans are under police scrutiny, the players have been fined and suspended and both teams have a lowered reputation within the NBA, if not the entire sporting world.
That being said, it is just one isolated event. I've seen the word "black eye" used or referenced in nearly every article I've read on the subject. This is not the end of the NBA's innocence, nor is it even the worst thing for Detroit's sporting reputation.
To claim that the NBA was the last innocent or pure sporting league is laughable to say the least. An isolated incident happened in which both players and fans exhibited deplorable behavior and are being justly punished. For me personally, this is not about the future of basketball. It just gives me another reason to dislike Ron Artest.
