WEBONLY: Students line up for 'OC' screening

October 28, 2004

Two weeks before its premiere, MSU students were treated to two episodes of the hot teen drama "The OC."

The Victoria's Secret Team Pink and the University Activities Board hosted an advanced screening for the show's new season in Wells Hall on Wednesday.

Some ticket holders arrived extra early to ensure a seat for the 7 p.m. screening.

"I've been here since 2 p.m. today," accounting junior Matt Karr said. "I've just been waiting so long for the season to begin, a few hours didn't make anymore difference to me.

"This show just gives such a different perspective of the world through the lives of rich kids who get into trouble, as opposed to middle-class kids getting into trouble."

The series centers around Ryan, a social outcast who moves in with the Cohen's, an affluent family with money and status from Orange County, Calif. Through witty dialogue and confrontations with authority, characters of different social classes interact and discover themselves.

"It's just one of those shows you get sucked into," said nursing junior Brianne Hyde. "It's kind of like our lives, but much more fun to watch."

FOX Networks teamed up with Victoria's Secret to bring the first two episodes of "The OC" to 19 campuses across the country before the show's Nov. 4 season premiere.

Team Pink, made up of 22 college students across the country who represent Victoria's Secret's new loungewear line for 18-22 year olds, sponsored the event.

"This is a huge deal," said Rachael Tibbits, an apparel and textile design senior and Team Pink spokeswoman. "This show is huge to today's generation and we love it ourselves. Tonight's turnout has been about as enormous as expected."

Although about 650 passes were distributed, only 500 students were able to see the new episodes - the rest were turned away.

"We can only let in so many because our capacity limit is 500 seats," said Amanda Andrzejewski, a marketing junior and Team Pink spokeswoman. "But we're giving goodie bags and gifts away, so no one gets to leave empty-handed."

Free gifts included hats, mouse pads, handbags, Victoria's Secret catalogs and a sweepstakes to win an all expense paid trip to the set of "The OC" in Los Angeles to meet the show's stars.
