Please, Virg Bernero, stop the political grandstanding "Sen. crusades against junk food" (SN 9/30).
Kids are only in school six to eight hours per day. Their unhealthy eating habits were formed long before they came to kindergarten and are continued at home now. You cannot legislate healthy eating.
And your statement "The liberal left that is into choices..." is just an inane comment. If this country isn't about choices, then who are we?
I don't want Big Brother telling me what I can eat, what I can wear, and who I can associate with.
If the state Legislature would do the right thing and give the schools enough money to run on, then they wouldn't have to resort to fundraising tactics such as pop and candy machine contracts and Channel One broadcasts.
Have some courage to help schools; don't take the cowardly way and bash them without support or solutions.
