The Michigan Minority Business Development Council presented MSU with the "Corporation of the Year - Education Sector" award on Oct. 5 at Cobo Hall in Detroit.
The university's purchasing department was given the award because of its cooperation with minority, female and small business-owners.
About 4,000 international business leaders were in attendance as Earvin "Magic" Johnson gave a keynote address and MSU was presented the award for the third time.
The minority council is a nonprofit group of major corporations from across the state that support small, minority-operated businesses by purchasing their product lines.
