Lax teaching policy promotes cheating

After reading the article on allmsu.com ("Cheatin' Hearts," SN 9/3) it made me almost angry. Obviously the university should be angry about this site because yes, it is definitely cheating. You will always have those few students that try and cheat, and sometimes get away with it. Doesn't it tell something to the university when so many students are doing it? It shows there are some severe problems with some of the teaching going on with some of these classes.

If you pick up the Princeton Review of colleges and universities, we are 15th of more than 300 universities for having too many higher level classes being taught by teaching assistants instead of professors. I can't count the number of classes I've had that are taught by TAs that barely have a hold on the English language. I know that my TAs are very bright individuals. Although what in the heck does the university expect when they give us TAs that can barely speak full sentences in English? They are trying to teach us already difficult material in which you will watch them struggling to explain it to us, and then give us homework in which it's not even taught by the professor that's creating it for us to do.

For the money that we are paying in tuition we deserve to be taught by the professor and not a TA. A TA is for a recitation, not a full-on class and not for the money we pay.

This article does bring up a huge cheating issue, which needs to be addressed absolutely. Instead of penalizing the students quite yet, why don't you figure out why so many students are going to this site to begin with and either posting or just viewing. Don't you find something severely wrong with the fact that a majority of the students are viewing these sites for help because of such classes taught by people hardly qualified in speaking North America's primary language? They need to reconsider going after those who are posting and viewing the help, and instead figure out why all these students are using allmsu.com. After those problems are finally addressed, then start going after the cheaters.
