While reading "Green expectations" (SN 9/27), I was saddened and annoyed to see that the 2020 Vision Plan included the possible removal of Shaw Lane. Sure, its removal would allow for more walking areas for students and "greener" areas for students and visitors to enjoy. However, it would also create mass traffic congestion on other roads around MSU.
If more walking paths are created for students, this does not mean less students will drive to class and walk instead. It only means the same amount of drivers will have to find alternate routes, which will only frustrate the drivers. Parking and traffic routes are already a problem on campus and the removal of Shaw Lane would only make them worse.
